Avocado Toast

Let’s get this right out of the way first with a recipe that is as close to perfection as possible. Avocado toast has been a staple of breakfast menus for the last ten years or more, usually paired with scrambled eggs and seeds.

For this version, add a poached egg and top it with tuna salad or alfalfa sprouts for a healthy and satisfying meal.

Peanut Butter & Pomegranate

Peanut butter? Sure. Pomegranate? Not so much, right? You might be surprised by this one, but this odd pairing works quite well. The classic PB flavor is complemented by the fresh fruit , with its natural sweetness and juiciness helping to combat peanut butter's stickiness, plus some extra fiber.

The recipe is simple: just spread a layer of peanut butter on your toast and sprinkle a healthy dose of pomegranate arils on top.

Fig, burrata & prosciutto

As with a couple of the following recipes, this very Italian version of breakfast toast might seem a bit sophisticated, but it’s really not. Indeed, a combination of fig, burrata, and prosciutto does look and sound impressive, but it is very easy to make.

If you want to go the whole nine yards, start with sourdough bread as the base. Top it with a slice of prosciutto, a spread of burrata, and the pulp of a fig. The sweet and salty combination is delicious.

Spinach & blue cheese rarebit

For those who don’t know, rarebit is a hot cheese sauce served on toasted bread . This upgraded version adds spinach leaves and tangy blue cheese, balanced by delicate crème fraîche and wholegrain mustard.

The flavor and texture mix of the creamy cheese, the crunchy toast, and the spicy mustard create a combination that will provide a nice kick to your breakfast.

Yes, we said that the first item on this list was the only avocado toast recipe you will need, but in this one, avocado isn’t the star —just another ingredient alongside the mighty radish.

Place thin slices of quick-pickled, crunchy radishes on your toast , then add some avocado slices on top. Lastly, top with a soft-boiled egg. Done. The spicy-creamy combination of radish, avocado, and egg is a heavenly experience for brunch lovers.

Pesto eggs with crushed peas

What are pesto eggs, you might wonder? This recipe is a great way to use up the last bit of pesto in the jar by placing it in a frying pan, along with two eggs and two tomato slices .

Once the eggs are cooked to your liking, place the pesto, tomato slices, and eggs in a blender and give it a quick spin to mix everything together. Spread the resulting mixture on two pieces of toast and enjoy!

Air fryer yogurt custard toast

If you have an air fryer, it will come in handy for this delicious breakfast recipe. Start by beating together 1 egg, 3 tablespoons of plain yogurt, and 2 tablespoons of honey or maple syrup in a bowl.

Once you’ve done this, spread the resulting mixture over two pieces of toast, add some raspberries on top , and air-fry for 7 to 8 minutes until the custard has set and the bread is crisp.

Cheese is an almost always welcome ingredient in any dish, and breakfast toasts are no exception. From salty to neutral , from soft and creamy to hard , cheese comes in many varieties that can be part of your morning menu.

Ricotta is a versatile option that can be spread on toast with lemon juice, basil leaves, and honey, or with sliced pears, walnuts, and honey. Soft goat cheese pairs well with figs and thyme for a Mediterranean-inspired breakfast. Blue cheese can also be combined with sliced pears, walnuts, and honey. The possibilities are endless.

We’ll start with probably the most popular fast-food brand in the world. Few logos are as intently recognizable as McDonald’s "golden arches", to the point that they are present in virtually every single country in the world. But before it became an international behemoth, this fast-food chain began as a single restaurant in San Bernardino, California, founded in 1940 by brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald.

We could probably fill this entire article with McDonald’s fun facts, like how an astronaut smuggled a cheeseburger onboard a space shuttle. However, we’ll end this entry with the fabled Big Mac index: Since, as we previously mentioned, McDonald’s restaurants are virtually everywhere, economists have used the price of a Big Mac burger as a global indicator of each country's economic strength.

While Burger King is often and unfairly considered to be playing second-fiddle to McDonald’s, the truth is that this chain is definitively fast-food royalty. First founded as Insta-Burger King in 1953, this restaurant offers a selection of burgers, fries, and other delectable products.

Burger King is perhaps most well-known for its signature burger, the " Whopper ". Created in 1957, this iconic product was the very first of its kind, causing competing franchises to develop their very own signature burgers. The Whopper’s legacy resulted in Burger King proudly adopting the nickname "Home of the Whopper".

You might be surprised to learn that Taco Bell , synonymous with one of Mexico’s most treasured culinary delicacies, was actually founded in America. Not only that: Did you know that the Bell in Taco Bell’s name comes from the founder’s last name?

When Glen Bell started his company in 1953, he didn’t know that this little taco stand would eventually grow into a massive chain serving over two billion satisfied customers each year. Taco Bell is known for a myriad of delicious meals, including its iconic "Crunchwrap Supreme".

In 1960, brothers Tom and James Monaghan bought a small pizza chain close to Eastern Michigan University called "DomiNick’s". Little did the brothers know that they would turn this $1400 investment into one of the biggest pizza chains in the world , with approximately 15,000 locations all around the world.

Known for its 30-minute guarantee, Domino’s offers delicious and affordable pizza delivered with pinpoint accuracy. Over 60 years have passed since its founding, but this pizza chain remains a beloved American icon.

Wendy’s

Who said that hamburgers need to be round? Wendy’s is a living testament that burgers will always be delicious, no matter what shape they are in. This iconic chain’s burgers are particularly famous for their two main characteristics: Their legendary square shape and the fact that their meat is always fresh and never frozen.

You might be curious as to who the titular Wendy featured in every restaurant is. Well, the restaurant’s founder Dave Thomas named it after his fourth daughter, Melinda Lou, who was known as "Wendy" from an early age. Not only that, Melinda’s likeness was used as the company’s logo, and she continues to serve as its official mascot.

Just like Dave Thomas modeling his company’s logo after his daughter, KFC chose to honor its founder by making him an instantly recognizable icon. After all, this iconic fast-food chain’s history starts with Colonel Harland Sanders’ will and determination to drive his family out of their humble beginnings.

In the 1930s, Sanders took the cooking skills he learned from his mother as a child and founded a small restaurant called "Sanders Court & Café". By the 1950s, he saw the potential that franchising provided and opened the very first "Kentucky Fried Chicken" in Salt Lake City. Nowadays, KFC operates thousands of locations all over the world, all of which serve the Coronel’s legendary chicken seasoned with his "11 herbs and spices".

Starbucks

We’ve been dealing with burgers and fried chicken for a while now, so how about a nice cup of Joe instead? While we were hesitant to add Starbucks to the realm of fast food, the truth is that this international company has grown into the world’s largest coffeehouse chain , all the while optimizing the process of delivering a hot and delicious cup of coffee to the hands of the consumer.

Founded in Seattle in 1971, Starbucks was named after a character from Herman Melville’s classic novel "Moby-Dick": In that sense, the twin-tailed mermaid that serves as their iconic logo was also inspired by Melville’s masterpiece. Starbucks is world-famous for its innovative drinks, including the revolutionary cold coffee brew known as the "Frappucino".

If you are looking for a healthy yet equally accessible fast-food restaurant, then Subway is the place for you. This company was first founded in 1965 by friends Fred DeLuca and Peter Buck, hoping to save enough money to pay for medical school tuition. By the start of the new millennium, Subway became one of the world’s most profitable franchises, as well as one of the fastest growing.

Known for their world-famous slogan "Eat Fresh", Subway’s main appeal is the fact that you can select which ingredients you want in your sandwich. While products like the "B.M.T." or the "Italian Hero" keep their distinctive identity, being able to add your favorite flavors onto your sandwich truly provides a tailor-made customer experience.

White Castle

While it might seem smaller compared to other international juggernauts in this list, White Castle holds the remarkable distinction of being the world’s very first fast-food hamburger chain . Just like many other restaurants, the humble beginnings of White Castle started in 1916 when a cook named Walt Anderson opened his first diner in a converted streetcar. Five years after that, Anderson partnered with Billy Ingram to found the very first White Castle restaurant in Wichita, Kansas.

Over a hundred years after this first location, White Castle is still a beloved destination for all burger lovers. Their most famous product is probably their iconic "sliders", complete with square patties and steamed onions.

Pizza Hut

We’ll end with another pizza institution. Founded in 1958 by two Wichita State students, Pizza Hut locations are instantly recognizable by their distinctive architecture, which features a red rooftop resembling a hut. Moreover, while their pizza is certainly delicious, Pizza Hut holds the distinction of owning one of the most groundbreaking achievements in pizza delivery history.

While Domino’s prides itself on its 30-minute delivery policy, Pizza Hut holds the record of the very first outer-space delivery in history. In 2001, the company designed a vacuum-sealed pizza suitable to be delivered to the International Space Station. This interplanetary pie literally reached the stars, where it was happily enjoyed by Russian cosmonaut Yuri Usachov.

A change in plans

Can a color be a worldwide celebrity? It seems so! This is the case of the famous "international orange" of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, California.

It's hard to imagine this iconic bridge in any other color. But believe it or not, it was once about to be painted in another hue.

The original idea was to paint the Golden Gate Bridge black with yellow stripes to make it visible to ships and planes. However, the sharp vision of consulting architect Irving Morrow changed the plans. When he saw the reddish color of the primer used on the iron, he realized that this color would work much better and would also give the imposing structure an original touch.

Too good to be true?

We all know that incredible creatures and breathtaking landscapes await us in Yellowstone. You probably also know that this amazing area that covers more than 3,400 square miles in parts of Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho was the first national park in the United States. Not only that, it was actually the first national park in the entire world!

But, while it's totally famous and celebrated today, there was a time when only a few knew about this place. Early explorers who walked Yellowstone in the 19th century wrote detailed journals about what they saw and experienced there, but when they returned, they found that people didn't believe their stories. We have to admit that those skeptics had a point; such a beautiful place seems out of this world!

Capitol's subway

Nobody can deny the metro system is great. Its speed and efficiency allow thousands of people around the world to get to their homes and jobs every day. Did you know that the members of the U.S. Congress have their own subway system right underneath the Capitol building?

That's right! Under the impressive structure that houses U.S. Representatives and Senators lies an entire subway system. This allows workers there to access different parts of the complex in a matter of seconds. It must make things easier on busy days, don't you think?

The final detail

But not all of the Capitol's surprises are underground; some are in plain sight. We're talking about the spectacular dome that crowns the famous neoclassical building in Washington, D.C. While the dome is a symbol of our country today, there was a time when the Capitol Building didn't have this gracious final detail.

The construction was considered completed in 1800. However, one last touch was still needed. In 1824, the first and smaller dome arrived, made of wood. Finally, it was replaced in 1866 by the impressive dome we see today, which stands an incredible 288 feet high and is made of cast iron, brick, stone, and copper.

A misspelling?

The Liberty Bell must be one of the most recognized icons of the United States. Preserved as a symbol of our Independence, everyone can visit the famous bell at the Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

In addition to its well-known history and its famous "crack," this bell has even more hidden details to discover. When you read the inscription on the Liberty Bell, you'll be able to read "Pensylvania" instead of "Pennsylvania." While you could think that those in charge of inscribing the bell weren't paying attention, it wasn't actually a misspelling; it was one of the accepted spellings for Pennsylvania in those days.

Hollywood(land)

Whether in person or through the screen, we all had the chance to see the legendary Hollywood sign over Mount Lee in Los Angeles, California.

But, while this landmark is recognized around the world today, it didn't always look as we see it now. The Hollywood sign had several changes throughout its history. It was first erected in 1923 as an advertisement for a real estate development. At the time, it read "Hollywoodland" and even had lights, illuminating the entire area at night.

Many things happened in our country before 1949, when the last four letters were removed, leaving just the current "Hollywood."

Good things take time

As we grow older, we understand one truth: good things often take time. While patience seems to be in short supply these days, it was certainly in abundance for those who built the impressive Mount Rushmore National Memorial, one of our most famous attractions.

The construction of this imposing monument that features the faces of George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln began in 1927 and took 14 years to complete. Carving four 60-foot-tall heads on a granite hill is no easy task. But, on top of that, some budget difficulties slowed down the process even more.

Mount Rushmore's secret door

Mount Rushmore National Memorial has more secrets to disclose! Although not visible to the naked eye, there is a particular detail among the heads of Washington, Jefferson, Roosevelt, and Lincoln. Want to know what it is?

If you haven't heard about it, this might surprise you: there is a small door right there on Mount Rushmore. Mysteries everywhere! The door leads to a chamber known as the "Hall of Records." According to the plans of sculptor Gutzon Borglum, this spot would hold important documents and objects of our history.

Time capsule

Besides being the tallest human-made monument in the United States and also the tallest arch in the world, the famous Gateway Arch in St Louis has much more to offer.

During its construction in the 1960s, a curious detail was placed inside its iconic metal structure. At the base of the monument, you can find nothing less than a time capsule!

The capsule, which contains various artifacts and relics from our country's history and culture, was thought to give future generations an idea of what the world and the United States were like in those days.

19th-century graffiti

At 555 feet tall, the Washington Monument is one of the most imposing in our country. But besides its height, this landmark also possesses a couple of surprising facts.

It might seem that graffiti is a modern artistic expression that has only been around recently, but this isn't the case, and the Washington Monument is proof of that. At the structure's base, there is a series of graffiti made in the 19th century, during the Civil War.

That's right! Many people and soldiers passing by at the time left signatures, dates, and patriotic messages inscribed on the famous obelisk, and some of them are still visible!
