Among the many objects and people who enter the White House every day, there are many gifts. And it's not just letters, children's drawings, or flower bouquets. Some of the gifts that have arrived at the Executive Mansion are really crazy. Among them, we can mention the giant 1,400-pound wheel of cheese that Andrew Jackson welcomed, the two grains of rice with tiny portraits of himself that Nixon received, the Komodo dragon given to George H.W. Bush, and the three-foot-long jewel-encrusted sword that Obama was given as a gift from Saudi Arabia.

Big party

In the past, the White House was more "accessible." So much so that when Jackson became president in 1829, the thousands of people who followed him to his residence threw a huge party right there in the gardens of the Executive Mansion, with some even entering the house. The party lasted for hours and marked a turning point in the relationship between US presidents and the citizens.

Judo at the White House

Visits to the White House are usually steeped in strict protocol, but there's always some room for surprises. One of these unexpected moments happened in 1904 when Teddy Roosevelt welcomed a Swiss diplomat. President Roosevelt was renowned for his physical prowess, and one of his favorite activities was judo. To show off his new skills, he invited the Swiss diplomat to join one of his practice sessions. But the poor man never imagined the president of the US would flip him with a judo throw, leaving the shocked diplomat on the mat!

Ghosts?

It's not just the living who create memorable moments at the White House. It's said that the spirits of figures such as Abraham Lincoln, Dolley Madison, and Andrew Jackson have been seen in the presidential residence. But one story stands out above the rest. During WWII, Churchill was staying at the White House when, one night after a shower, he reportedly encountered the ghost of President Lincoln! Churchill allegedly said, "Good evening, Mr. President. You seem to have me at a disadvantage."

Intruder helicopter

The first issue of "People" magazine, the debut episode of   Happy Days, and the premiere of   The Godfather II all arrived in 1974, a year equally tumultuous for politics. On February 17, a strange event occurred: A US Army private first class stole a helicopter and landed it on the White House lawn without permission. According to various accounts, the soldier had not graduated from the pilot course and, frustrated, stole the helicopter to show off his skills. Bold!

Santa

Sometimes, Santa shows up with more surprises than a sack full of presents. On December 12, 1983, none other than Mr. T arrived at the White House dressed as Santa! As part of First Lady Nancy Reagan's "Just Say No" campaign, Mr. T played Santa for the children visiting the White House that day. But it wasn't just for the kids: the First Lady herself perched on Mr. T's lap, making a holiday wish.

Homemade gin

Every president has their own particular hobbies and preferences, and Dwight D. Eisenhower was no exception. It's said he was a fan of gin-based drinks, particularly martinis, and took a special interest in them. He even made his own gin right inside the White House! While it wasn't exactly classic "bathtub gin," as some like to claim, it was definitely a homemade recipe.

The White House has seen all kinds of events over the years. But there was someone who made history on that front, and it wasn't a president but his daughter! We're talking about President Gerald Ford's daughter, Susan Ford, who in 1975 became the first —and so far, only— presidential child to host a prom at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue!

As we've mentioned, each inhabitant of the Executive Mansion found their way to make the house feel like home. It turns out that President Nixon had a full, modern bowling alley installed inside the White House. And unlike that stationary bike we bought months ago (and it's still in its packaging), he actually used it regularly!

The White House has a long list of animal inhabitants! For example, John Quincy Adams’ famous alligator, Theodore Roosevelt's bear cub, Calvin Coolidge's raccoons, Andrew Jackson's foul-mouthed parrot, and one of the most surprising: the tiger cubs gifted to President Martin van Buren.

The beginning of the Walk of Fame was a process rather than a moment, which is why we cannot appoint a single person as the first one to receive this honor. However, Joanne Woodward, an accomplished actress of the 1950s, was the first person ever photographed with a star on the Walk of Fame.

Awarded in 1960, she was part of the very first group of stars to be unveiled. Known as the "Singing Cowboy," Gene Autry is the only entertainer with not one, not two, not even three… but five stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! What an accomplishment, don’t you think?

His stars are scattered along Hollywood Boulevard and each one of them represents his contributions to different areas of entertainment: film, television, music, radio, and live performance. Autry’s career spanned decades, and he was a pioneer in popularizing country music and Western films. With so much on his resume, five stars are suddenly not enough!

His star, located at 7007 Hollywood Boulevard, celebrates his role as the ultimate animated troublemaker. Bugs is so much more than just a cartoon character, he has brought laughter and joy to many generations. His star is a fitting tribute to the bunny with brains, who said the Hollywood Walk of Fame was just for real-life entertainers?

Ray Bradbury: writing his way to the stars

Just as fictional characters can have a great impact on Hollywood, so can writers. After all, writers and their work have inspired many movies and series. True as that can be, only two writers have stars on the Walk of Fame.

Ray Bradbury, the literary genius behind Fahrenheit 451 and The Martian Chronicles , got his own star on the Walk of Fame in 2002 . Bradbury’s imagination took us to distant planets and dystopian futures, and Hollywood couldn’t help but take notice. His star at 6644 Hollywood Boulevard honors his profound influence on movies and TV through his books. Only two novelists have stars on the Walk, and Bradbury’s spot is well-deserved. Disneyland: a magical addition

If you thought a fictional character receiving a star was a bit unusual, wait until you find out that even some corporations have their own star! But it’s for a good reason, trust us!

Disneyland, the happiest place on Earth, got its own star on the Walk of Fame in 2005. Though it’s not technically on the Walk (city rules, go figure), the star sits right next to it, near Disney’s Soda Fountain on Hollywood Boulevard.

Opened in 1955, the park is a cornerstone of entertainment history, which is why it has received a star. Even without a spot on the official Walk, Disneyland’s star shines just as bright. It’s the ultimate fairy-tale ending!

Julia Louis-Dreyfus: a star with a funny twist

Now, you haven’t heard the quirkiest detail. The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a place of honor, but that doesn’t mean it’s free of mistakes.

In 2010, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, the comedy queen from Seinfeld and Veep , received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. But here’s the kicker: They misspelled her name as "Julia Luis Dreyfus" at first!

Van Dyke’s star honors his legendary career in TV and film, from Mary Poppins to The Dick Van Dyke Show . The little hiccup just adds to the fun-loving spirit of his legacy. Lassie: everyone’s best friend

Who didn’t wish to have a dog like Lassie at home? Lassi is the most famous collie in the world and she got her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960. Well, at least the character did because, spoiler alert, Lassie was played by many dogs!

Lassie’s star, located at 6368 Hollywood Boulevard, honors her role as TV’s favorite four-legged hero. She’s one of only four dogs to receive a star, and honestly, she deserves it for all the lives she’s "saved" on screen.

The star isn’t just for one dog, it’s for every amazing canine that played Lassie over the years. It was only fair that a man’s best friend received a star on such an iconic street!

Let's start with a powerful one. While they say not to judge by appearances, only one look at an American alligator's face can confirm it might not be the friendliest creature around.

Populating freshwater habitats in the southeastern U.S., males can grow up to 15 feet long. In addition to their impressive size, they have incredibly strong jaws , one of the most powerful in the animal kingdom.

American alligators are also excellent hunters, as they know how to blend into their surroundings while waiting for prey to approach. Clever tactics!

Western Diamondback Rattlesnake

The American alligator is not the only reptile on this list. We also have the stellar presence of the impressive Western diamondback rattlesnake. With a name like that, how could it possibly go unnoticed? But believe us, its name is not the only surprising thing about it.

This reptile has particularly large fangs compared to other snakes, and what's even more fascinating is that they are quickly replaced if one breaks or gets damaged. When this carnivorous predator confronts its prey —generally rodents, birds, or some other reptiles— it uses those fangs to inject its venom , a toxin capable of hindering coagulation and even causing tissue damage.

This huge creature is far from a cuddly care bear. We are talking about the fearsome grizzly bear, a giant that can weigh up to 1,500 pounds and reach 10 feet tall when standing on its hind legs.

And as if its size were not enough, the great strength of this beast and its territorial nature make it a threat to other species. In addition, despite being omnivores, their sharp claws and large teeth make them tough predators.

The cougar can weigh up to 220 pounds and measure up to 8 feet long. Can you imagine a kitten that size? With its claws, teeth, and pointed ears! Despite its name, the mountain lion can adapt to different environments: cold mountains, forests, and even deserts.

But what truly distinguishes this animal is its stealthiness. This solitary creature is an intelligent and cautious predator, approaching its prey slowly and quietly until it's time to attack.

If you got shocked by the 220 pounds of the cougar or the 1,500 pounds of the grizzly bear, just wait until you hear how much the American bison can weigh.

Males of this imposing animal can reach 2,000 pounds! In addition, some specimens reach 6.5 feet from hoof to shoulders. Despite its size and strength, the American bison is an herbivore , which means it doesn't attack other animals for food.

But wait, if this beautiful animal gets angry, its defense can be truly intimidating; just picture a horned creature of that size approaching. It can also run at a speed of up to 35 miles per hour! Definitely an incredible animal.

Black widow spider

The black widow is not only a comic book character but also one of the most feared creatures on this list. This arthropod lives throughout the southern and western United States, as it prefers warm, dry climates.

Unlike other animals, the black widow is a threat to other species and also to its own. This spider's name comes from its notorious behavior: sometimes, the female devours the male.

In addition to this creepy detail, its appearance is also spooky. It has a shiny black body with a bright red marking on its abdomen. But that's not all; this spider also has potent venom used to immobilize its prey. Fortunately, experts say it typically only bites in self-defense.

Despite its size, it can swim agilely with a speed of up to 25 miles per hour. This fearsome predator, found along both the Pacific and Atlantic coasts of the United States, uses all its advantages to attack its prey quickly and surprisingly.

While their visibility is low, they rely on their ability to perceive the electromagnetic fields of other creatures! Looks like an invincible predator, doesn't it?

While slightly smaller than the grizzly bear, the black bear is still intimidating. With an average weight of 450 pounds , it's a large animal, equipped with sharp claws and teeth that can quickly appear if it or its cubs feel threatened.

In addition to their speed of up to 30 mph, these agile animals can also climb trees! And yes, the myth is true: they do love honey (who wouldn't, right?).

The rattlesnake isn't the only snake making this list. The coral snake definitely earned its spot, too.

Famed and feared worldwide, this snake species possesses a potent venom that can immobilize and cause respiratory failure in its prey. In addition, its small size (about 2 to 3 feet in length) helps it go unnoticed by other animals before it bites them.

Found in the southeastern United States, the coral snake is known for its impressive appearance but is generally not very aggressive unless provoked. Did you know other snakes mimic the coral snake's colors to appear more intimidating and keep predators away? You know, nature is wise.

This list isn't just about huge horns, sharp teeth, and hefty bodies; there are also creatures the size of a rice grain.

We're talking about fire ants, tiny but strong insects with a fearsome reputation. Why is the aggressiveness of such a small creature so scary? Well, because their stings are really painful , something that no animal species would want to experience. But that's not all; fire ants have the ability to sting and bite at the same time, causing pain, itching, and burning.

Like all ants, they have a very organized society . Every time they perceive their colony threatened, they launch a chemical alarm and start defending their home like an army!
